Participation Conditions – Saal Digital European Photo Awards

1. Eligibility

The competition is open to all professional and hobby photographers aged 18 years and over. Participation is free of charge. A free Saal Digital customer account is required to submit entries.

2. Organizer and Cooperation Partners

The competition is organized solely by Saal Digital.Selected brands may participate as cooperation partners for communication, prize support, and award-related presentation. Unless explicitly stated otherwise, such partners are not legal organizers of the competition.

3. Submission Requirements

  • Accepted file format: JPG
  • Maximum file size: 15 MB per image
  • Participants may submit up to 5 photos in total, either within a single category or across multiple categories.
  • Submissions must be received between 1 September 2026 and 31 October 2026, 23:59 CET.
  • Entries that have been submitted to other competitions are also permitted.

Submitted images must be of sufficient technical quality for jury evaluation and potential digital or printed presentation. Saal Digital reserves the right to reject files that are, in particular, too low in resolution, excessively compressed, blurred, corrupted, or otherwise technically unsuitable.

Saal Digital reserves the right to reassign submitted images to another category or exclude them from the competition if they do not fit the selected category or otherwise do not meet the competition criteria.

4. Editing and Technical Restrictions

Only basic adjustments to framing, exposure, lighting, contrast, sharpness, colour, and basic retouching are permitted.

Photo montages and manipulated composite images are not permitted.

AI-generated images, as well as image elements created using generative artificial intelligence, are not permitted.

5. Copyright, Personality Rights and Third-Party Rights

Participants must own the copyright to their submitted photos and be able to provide proof of ownership upon request.

By submitting an image, the participant confirms that:

  • the submitted image does not infringe any third-party copyright, trademark, contractual, or other intellectual property rights;
  • the image does not violate any rights of privacy, publicity, personality, or image of any individual;
  • any persons depicted in the image have expressly and demonstrably consented to the creation and publication of the image, where such consent is legally required.

The participant is solely responsible for the legal admissibility of the submitted content.

6. Usage Rights

By entering the competition, participants grant Saal Digital a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide right to use selected submitted images solely for purposes related to the competition and its promotion.

This includes, in particular, the right to use selected images:

  • on the competition website and related landing pages or galleries;
  • on Saal Digital websites;
  • in newsletters;
  • on social media channels;
  • in digital and printed promotional materials;
  • at events, trade shows, and exhibitions;
  • in award-related communication by Saal Digital and selected cooperation partners;
  • in an award summary photo book or similar publication presenting highlights of the competition.

Any such use will be made in connection with the competition, its promotion, or the presentation of results. Whenever reasonably possible, the photographer will be credited by name.

No transfer of copyright takes place. Participants remain the copyright holders of their images.

7. Non-Compliant Images

Saal Digital reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to reject, remove, or refrain from publishing any submitted images that:

  • do not comply with these Participation Conditions;
  • violate applicable laws or regulations;
  • are offensive, discriminatory, defamatory, misleading, or otherwise ethically inappropriate;
  • may damage the reputation of the competition, Saal Digital, or any cooperation partner.

8. Judging and Winners

All eligible submissions will be reviewed after the submission period has ended.

Entries will be judged based on:

  • aesthetic quality,
  • conceptual strength,
  • originality,
  • and relevance to the selected category.

The judging panel will be determined by Saal Digital and Hahnemühle.

One winner will be selected in each category.

The jury’s decision is final.

9. Prize

Each category winner will receive:

  • one Saal Digital voucher with a value of £850 for Saal Digital products; and
  • one voucher with a value of £850 for Hahnemühle products printed by Saal Digital.

Prizes are non-transferable, non-exchangeable, and cannot be paid out in cash, either in whole or in part.

Saal Digital reserves the right to replace a prize with another prize of equal value if necessary for operational or legal reasons.

10. Data Protection

By entering the competition, participants agree that their personal data and image-related data will be collected, stored, and processed by Saal Digital for the purpose of administering and operating the competition, in accordance with the applicable provisions of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

Personal data will not be used for unrelated purposes, sold, or transferred to third parties, unless this is necessary for the administration of the competition, required by law, or expressly consented to by the participant.

11. Changes, Suspension or Termination

Saal Digital reserves the right to amend, suspend, or terminate the competition at any time for good cause, in particular in the event of technical issues, legal reasons, abuse, or circumstances beyond Saal Digital’s reasonable control.

In such cases, participants shall have no claims against Saal Digital or any cooperation partner.

12. Liability and Risk Disclaimer

Participation in the competition is at the participant’s own risk.

To the extent permitted by law, Saal Digital shall not be liable for technical malfunctions, data loss, delayed submissions, or any damages resulting from participation in the competition, unless caused by intent or gross negligence.

13. Final Provisions / No Legal Recourse

The decision of the organizer is final. No legal recourse is permitted.

Should any provision of these Participation Conditions be or become invalid, the validity of the remaining provisions shall remain unaffected.

The law of the Federal Republic of Germany shall apply, to the extent legally permissible.
